#PuppetShowFriday

Valentine's Day came with a special surprise for some of the awesome teachers of Castleberry ISD!  A few handsome puppets from AV Cato, Joy James, and Castleberry Elementary made a special appearance to win the teachers hearts for Valentine's Day!
Milli Vanilli

Lionel Richie, Millie Vanilli, & Harry Styles each arrived with clips of some of their sweet songs.  Lionel sang Hello, Millie Vanillie sang Girl You Know It's True, and Harry Styles sang One Directions What Makes You Beautiful.

Lionel sings "Hello" to Ms. Hazard
And Ms. Wilson
Harry sings to Ms. Gadberry
to let her know that she is beautiful!
Students voted on which puppet should be their teacher's Valentine!
I think Harry Styles won every time!

Following the puppet's Valentine serenade, Lego Man visited our students. Check out his video appearance below.

Students learned about Mat and Asad's mission to get lego man into space.  What makes this story really neat, is that Mat and Asad are not adults, not doctors, not grad students, but kids. It's an inspiring story for all kids to know that they can do incredible things!

Many grade levles are beginning to study space, planets, and stars.  This puppet show was a great introduction into a space unit.  Research and collaboration lessons regarding space will be a great follow up to this puppet show.

February CE Library News

That is Not a Good Idea

Have you had a chance to read one of Mo Willems newest books, That is Not a Good Idea?
Check out the book trailer below.

This book begins as an adorable classic tale of fox and goose.  Inferring from our previous knowledge, we all predict that the fox will eat mama goose.  Mo introduces a few new characters to this book, the baby geese, which we all hope to see again.  The baby geese frequently warn the characters by saying "That is not a good idea".

Check out Ms. Helgen's class reading That is Not a Good Idea by Mo Willems.

What if the Pigeon Drove the Bus?

Read Mo! is the theme in the library this month as we explore the amazing Mo Willems books with Kindergarten and 1st grade students.  This week we read Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus.  Following the story we talked about what would happen if the pigeon did drive the bus!  I loved seeing all of our students creativity!  Check out the video below for a few imaginative pictures created by our kiddos.

Collaboration Project: If Martin Luther King Jr. had Instagram

What do you think Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. would say if he had Instagram?

We began our collaboration lesson with a BrainPop video regarding Civil Rights.  We discussed the issues and problems with not treating each other with respect/treating people the way we would want to be treated.

Following the video we read the book Martin's Big Words and discussed what Big Words we think he would share with us today.

Students at CE paired up with buddy classes (k-2 classes paired with 3-5 classes) and created Instagram posts as if they were Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. : A Selfie as Martin Luther King Jr.

A Collaboration Project: Founding Fathers

Do you know what impact our Founding Fathers had on our national government? Well, Ms. Mejia's class has the answer!

Ms. Mejia collaborated with the library to create a fun learning experience for her students.  Ms. Mejia asked the question "How has our Founding Fathers contributed to our national government"?Students were then assigned a specific Founding Father to research.  Following their research, students drew a picture of a monument they would create to represent their Founding Fathers contributions to our national government.  A snapshot of the monument was taken and students used Chatterpix to tell why their monuments show the Founding Fathers contributions.

My favorite student quote during this project: "This was so much better than learning".
