What if the Pigeon Drove the Bus?

Read Mo! is the theme in the library this month as we explore the amazing Mo Willems books with Kindergarten and 1st grade students.  This week we read Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus.  Following the story we talked about what would happen if the pigeon did drive the bus!  I loved seeing all of our students creativity!  Check out the video below for a few imaginative pictures created by our kiddos.

Collaboration Project: If Martin Luther King Jr. had Instagram

What do you think Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. would say if he had Instagram?

We began our collaboration lesson with a BrainPop video regarding Civil Rights.  We discussed the issues and problems with not treating each other with respect/treating people the way we would want to be treated.

Following the video we read the book Martin's Big Words and discussed what Big Words we think he would share with us today.

Students at CE paired up with buddy classes (k-2 classes paired with 3-5 classes) and created Instagram posts as if they were Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. : A Selfie as Martin Luther King Jr.

A Collaboration Project: Founding Fathers

Do you know what impact our Founding Fathers had on our national government? Well, Ms. Mejia's class has the answer!

Ms. Mejia collaborated with the library to create a fun learning experience for her students.  Ms. Mejia asked the question "How has our Founding Fathers contributed to our national government"?Students were then assigned a specific Founding Father to research.  Following their research, students drew a picture of a monument they would create to represent their Founding Fathers contributions to our national government.  A snapshot of the monument was taken and students used Chatterpix to tell why their monuments show the Founding Fathers contributions.

My favorite student quote during this project: "This was so much better than learning".
